FFA Work and Pie Auction
by Lisa Smith
March 19, 2008
On Thursday, March 13, 2008, the Creighton FFA Chapter held their annual work and pie auction in the Creighton school’s multipurpose room. Free pie and ice cream was served at 6:30 p.m. and the auction began at 7:00. Keith Saathoff and Dillon Olson conducted the auction and bids were taken by Jerry Hanefeldt and Tim Becker. Each FFA member and advisor Mr. Sukup donated eight hours of labor to the highest bidder. They are asked to complete their work in one year’s time. Seniors are asked to do their work prior to the end of the summer before they leave for college. This year, seventy-nine members and Mr. Sukup were auctioned off and produced an average price of $155.11. One hundred and five pies were also sold and averaged $36.24 each. Overall, the work and pie auction generated a total of $16,213.45.
The
two highest members purchased were Curt Wagner for $1,038.45 and
Josh Kruse for $525.00. Warren Renter contributed the most for the
auction and Landmark Angus donated 50 pounds of ground beef. The
FFA Chapter encouraged the buyers at the auction to pool money to
purchase Curt and donate the money back to help Curt’s family cover
medical expenses. Curt will be required to work immediately to
cover his eight hours. We are asking Curt to work immediately on a
full recovery. A poster-sized card was also signed by all that
attended and we are very glad that Curt is now home.
The
Creighton FFA Chapter is very appreciative of the support from our
community. We will use the funds for various activities throughout
the year as well as purchasing equipment for the classroom.
Scholarships will also be given to graduating seniors.
